GOOD NEIGHBOR: JACQUIE OLIVERIUS Kiwanis of Greater Concord installs

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday, but this is definitely the week to stay away from the scale, at least until you’ve had a chance to walk off some of the turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving. It’s also a chance to practice the creative art of squeezing leftovers into the refrigerator.

Before the holiday season officially began last week, there was a lot of activity in Central County for several groups and organizations.

Kiwanis Club of Greater Concord officially began its 2009-2010 year with the induction of its new board of directors.

Congratulations to new president Tim McGallian, who received the gavel from outgoing president Sandra Hall. The installation lunch in October was held in the outdoor patio of Fin’s on the Square in downtown Concord. Jim Sullivan, Division 26 lieutenant governor, thanked the outgoing board and introduced the incoming officers.

“Following a very personal roast by friends and family, Tim McGallian was introduced as the new club president,” said Blanca Campos, publicity coordinator. “Tim is a longtime Kiwanian and State Farm agent.”

McGallian will be ably assisted by Don Lawson, recently retired sergeant for the Concord Police Department, as president-elect; Lisa Sherrill, community relations manager for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, as secretary; and charter member Michael Elder as club treasurer, said Campos.

The club meets at noon every Wednesday at the Old Spaghetti Factory on Todos Santos Plaza. For more information on the club, contact Rocci Barsotti at 925-285-2225.

Congratulations again to the new board of Kiwanis of Greater Concord.
