DRIVERS think car insurance policies are designed to confuse.

Research from swiftcover.co.uk shows that 42% of Brits struggle to understand the terms used in their car policy, leaving them uncertain about what they are covered for.

A quarter of motorists have no idea what voluntary excess means, despite the fact many people increase their voluntary excess as a way to reduce the cost of insurance.

Nearly a fifth of motorists surveyed mistakenly believe that fully comprehensive means they have that cover on any car they drive, and 17% don’t even bother to read their insurance policies in the first place
